Mini Reviews • The Last Black Unicorn, A Very Large Expanse of Sea + What Am I Currently Reading?

I’m trying to read 100 books this year..?

And I’ve currently read seven books this year so far (am currently reading one atm) and I never realized how fun, but hard it is to try to read 100 books in a year, because it can feel like you’re pushing yourself when you’re simply reading.

So I took a three week-ish break from reading, and it was FANTASTIC.

Now I am back to reading, and I want to share 2 reviews on a couple of books that I have read, because they were amazing, and I’d be a fool to go ahead and not recommend/share these books with you all.

So.. let’s talk.

Author: Tiffany Haddish

Rating: ♥♥♥♥

Cover Art Thoughts: The cover is awfully simple, and at first I wasn’t a big fan of it, but as I looked at it more and more, I realized it was really motivating and inspiring. Dressed as a unicorn, Haddish looks confident and strong with her big smile and with the confetti surrounding her.

ReviewNot only is this story AMAZINGG, it promotes confidence and talks about life situations that everyone may have to go through. Even though everyone goes through life differently, it offers the perspective of Haddish and lets us know: 1) its okay to make mistakes 2) don’t you ever give up on life. If you’re ever feeling down or need some cheering or advice, Tiffany’s motivational book is definitely the way to go. It was quite long to listen to, since I listened to it as an audiobook, but it was enjoyable.

Author: Tahereh Mafi

Cover Art Thoughts: It’s a pretty simple cover. It’s not to over the top or extravagant, but it does its job to be a creative and pretty cover, and I respect that.

Review: This story is so important, because it really shows you how racism and prejudice can affect an entire race of people, but specifically one persons life. At times it can be difficult and saddening to read, but its definitely something everyone should read.

It’s set in 2002, right after the 9/11 bombings, and people are constantly harassing and and assaulting her, all because they’re blaming her for the tragedy, when she had no participation in it. But when she meets a white guy named Ocean, people start to judge more harshly and try to break her down more. I won’t spill any details, but I’ll definitely say it’s WORTH READING.

I finished this book in a day, which shouldn’t have been possible considering how busy I was, so that should say something.

So far, SO GOOD.

James Patterson and Bill Clinton clearly worked hard on the book and made sure all the logistics and specifics were good, and made no room for error.

I’m not done reading it just yet, but I definitely recommend it to others to read. It’s a look into the White House, into a Presidency, and shows you how it can run and how the President and his people navigate the good and the bad to keep the country intact.

Like I said, I’m not done, but it’s amazing.

I might not make it to 100 reads this year, but I’m definitely going to have a good time trying. If you have ever read these two books, let me know your thoughts below, I’d love to hear them.

Also, if you have any more recommendations, let me know those too, I’d love to read them. What book are you currently reading?

Until next time..
